Absolutely everyone enjoys a holiday or mini vacation every now and then. A time to unwind and get away from all the stresses of everyday life. That’s especially true and even more crucial whilst in college! As college students we don’t get as many days off as we used to in high school. What I would give to have teacher planning days again! However, what we do have is flexible class times and a weekend, two things that we can use to our advantage! As a senior, I can attest that traveling is one of the best things that you can do during your time in undergrad. Traveling with your best friends, you will create the craziest memories that you will never forget. I personally didn’t start traveling until my junior and senior year, and I wish I started earlier! It may seem intimidating to travel to an unknown city but it’s definitely worth it in the end. So now that you got a reason to traveling, where should you travel? Thankfully, we live in one of the best states in the country and Florida is relatively close to other awesome tourist destinations and states!

Orlando, FL

As most of us that attend Florida State are Florida natives, we more than likely have all been to Orlando. Orlando is arguably one of the best cities in Florida! With several theme parks to go to: Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, Animal Kingdom, and more, there is plenty opportunity to bring out your inner kid. All parks include their own theme or personality so you are sure to find a park that will be the most enjoyable for you. For example, I am not the biggest Disney fan, so most of the time I attend parks like Universal Studios, and if I do go to Disney, I go to Animal Kingdom where the rides are more intense and exciting. However, you might be a huge Disney lover or have a passion for aquatic animals in which case Disney and Sea World will be a perfect match for you. Besides theme parks in Orlando, you can visit Downtown Disney at night where there’s a host of restaurants, bars, and events to attend which are all pretty affordable. And if you’re on a quest for retail therapy, The Florida Mall has over 250 retailers to shop till your hearts desire! Whatever you choose to do, you will have a great time in this city which is approximately 4 hours away from Tallahassee.

Panama City Beach, FL

Panama City Beach is one of those cities that when the name comes to mind, all you can think about is beaches and partying (two things that all we love). Panama City Beach during spring break is a great time to let loose with your friends and enjoy the week away from school. When it’s not spring break, PCB is a relaxing get away perfect for a girls trip or a weekend with your significant other! After the beach, you can hit up restaurants on the strip that offer great, fresh sea food. For nightlife, there are two main nightclubs and other bars in the area that are usually open until 4am or later depending on holidays. Panama City Beach is located approximately two hours from Tallahassee and you gain one hour, as the city resides in the Central Standard Time zone.

New Orleans, Louisiana

I get emotional every time I think about my trips to this culturally rich city because I truly have never been to a greater city! Nola, or Nawlins’ as the natives call it is a city that received over 9.78 Million visitors in 2015 according to Nola.com. Down from previous years prior to Hurricane Katrina, the city however is quickly experiencing an increase in tourists and numbers are expected to double in the coming years. New Orleans is a destination that is known around the country and world to have the best sea food, Cajun food, and Jazz music. What is better than music and food?! Absolutely nothing! The famous French Quarter is where all the action happens. With endless gourmet restaurants and live bands playing in the streets, it creates the perfect ambiance and vibe. The city is known to be a non judgmental and free environment. People are encouraged to dance in the streets to the live music and to live in the moment! Bourbon Street is one of the most notorious streets in the nation. In its thirteen blocks, Bourbon Street is host to dozens of bars and clubs in which tourists can enjoy music and drinks. The majority of the bars on this street are strict to their 21+ alcohol consumption laws, so make sure that you are of age and drink responsibly. There are a range of activities to occupy your time in this lively city, from bicycle rides, voodoo readings, and historic French museums. Also make sure to visit Café Du Monde, for their world renowned Beignets and coffee. New Orleans is located approximately five hours away from Tallahassee.
